3rd National Symposium on Spanish as a Heritage Language

Call for papers
The Department of ROMANCE LANGUAGES at the University of Oregon cordially invites abstract submissions to the third Symposium on Spanish as a Heritage Language to be held on February 18-20, 2016. Abstracts will be selected for 20-minute presentations (with 10 minutes for discussion) as well as for poster presentations.
We hope to receive abstracts (in Spanish or English) from researchers, teachers, and students representing all viewpoints and subfields of study to share, discuss, and explore both theoretical and practical knowledge in any area of Spanish Heritage Bilingual Development.
We are proud to announce the participation of the following Plenary Speakers:
- Dr. Jennifer Leeman, George Mason University
- Dr. Susana Rivera-Mills, Oregon State University
- Bill Santiago, comedian, author, TV commentator
Concurrent with the conference, we will host three workshop sessions that aim to provide participants with ideas, resources, strategies, and practical advice for (i) articulation and placement challenges in the transition from high school to college-level institutions as well as for (ii) the creation and/or improvement of quality language programs that deliver the most optimal learning environment for Spanish heritage learners. There will be separate sessions focusing on K-12, and higher education.
**All student presenters will be eligible for consideration for a most promising scholar award**

Notification of acceptance: December 22nd, 2015
Abstract Submission: Authors are asked to submit their anonymous abstracts via the Easy Abstracts submission site. Abstracts should not exceed 500 words. Tables, examples, and references may be included on a second page. No more than two abstracts per person should be submitted, with no more than one as first or sole author.

El Departamento de Lenguas Romances de la Universidad de Oregón invita cordialmente al envío de resúmenes para el III Simposio de Español como Lengua de Herencia que se llevará a cabo del 18 al 20 de febrero del 2016. Los resúmenes serán elegidos tanto para presentaciones de 20 minutos (con 10 minutos de discusión) como para exposiciones de pósteres.
Esperamos recibir resúmenes (en español o en inglés) de investigadores, profesores y estudiantes representando todas las perspectivas y subcampos de estudio para compartir, discutir y explorar el conocimiento teórico y práctico en cualquier área del Desarrollo Bilingüe del Español como Herencia.
Nos place anunciar la participación de:

- Dr. Susana Rivera-Mills, Oregon State University
- Bill Santiago, comediante, escritor y comentarista de televisión.
A la par de la programación del sábado, ofreceremos dos sesiones de talleres con el objetivo de proporcionar a los asistentes ideas, recursos, estrategias y consejos prácticos para: uno, los retos en la articulación y nivelación de cursos desde la escuela secundaria hasta instituciones de educación superior; y dos, la creación y/o mejoramiento de la calidad de programas de lenguas que facilitan el ambiente de aprendizaje más óptimo para estudiantes de español como lengua de herencia. Habrá sesiones diferentes enfocadas en K-12 y educación superior.

Notificación de aceptación: Diciembre 22 del 2015
Envío de resúmenes: Se solicita a los autores que envíen sus resúmenes anónimos por medio de la página web Easy Abstracts. Los resúmenes no deben exceder las 500 palabras. Tablas, ejemplos y referencias, pueden incluirse en una segunda página. No deben enviarse más de dos resúmenes por persona como autor/a individual.
